Indian Women Work Where Jobs Exist, Not Always Where They Prefer
Times of India · india
India's first district-level jobs data reveals a stark reality: women are most employed in areas offering limited choices, while participation is low where available jobs don't align with their lives. In six tribal districts of eastern Gujarat, 82% of women aged 15 and above are in the workforce, the highest rate nationally. Conversely, in Haryana's Yamunanagar, this figure drops to just 10%. The data highlights significant disparities in female labour force participation across different regions of India, indicating geographical and societal factors heavily influence women's employment decisions.
