Ujjain Police Fire Tear Gas Amid Mosque Demolition

Protests erupted in Ujjain on Monday as a large group clashed with police over the proposed demolition of a portion of the Shahi Masjid for road widening. Stones were pelted at police, who responded with tear gas to control the situation. The demolition is part of a project ahead of the Simhastha 2028 fair. The Madhya Pradesh High Court is scheduled to hear the matter. Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi urged the administration to respect public sentiment and find alternative land acquisition methods for the heritage site.
