Russia has arrested Japanese journalist Yuki Imai from Sakhalin Island, accusing him of spying and gathering information on defence capabilities. The Federal Security Service (FSB) detained Imai as he prepared to leave the country, with the case now moved to Moscow. This arrest occurs amid strained relations between Russia and Japan, exacerbated by Tokyo's support for Western sanctions against Moscow over the Ukraine invasion. Russia's Foreign Ministry stated this incident is not isolated and warned of further darkening relations due to Japan's anti-Russian policies and perceived remilitarisation.
