Nanda Devi Expedition Urges Strict Tourism Ban In Inner Sanctuary

A Decadal Nanda Devi Biodiversity Monitoring Expedition report has recommended an "uncompromising isolation model" for the Nanda Devi National Park's core zone. Scientists warned that the inner sanctuary cannot withstand any form of tourism, stressing the need to preserve its ecological integrity and UNESCO-recognised values. The report also called for a climate-resilient, community-led buffer zone around the park. Glaciers within the park collectively decreased in area by 0.4 sqkm between 2015 and 2026, with South Rishi and Changbang glaciers experiencing the highest relative loss.

एक दशक के नंदा देवी जैव विविधता निगरानी अभियान की रिपोर्ट ने नंदा देवी राष्ट्रीय उद्यान के मुख्य क्षेत्र के लिए "समझौता न करने वाले अलगाव मॉडल" की सिफारिश की है। वैज्ञानिकों ने चेतावनी दी है कि अंदरूनी अभयारण्य किसी भी तरह के पर्यटन का सामना नहीं कर सकता है, और इसके पारिस्थितिक अखंडता और यूनेस्को-मान्यता प्राप्त मूल्यों को संरक्षित करने की आवश्यकता पर जोर दिया। रिपोर्ट में पार्क के आसपास एक जलवायु-लचीला, समुदाय-नेतृत्व वाला बफर जोन बनाने का भी आह्वान किया गया है। 2015 और 2026 के बीच पार्क के भीतर ग्लेशियरों का कुल क्षेत्रफल 0.4 वर्ग किमी कम हो गया, जिसमें दक्षिण ऋषि और चांगबांग ग्लेशियरों में सबसे अधिक सापेक्षिक नुकसान हुआ।
