He stated that a generation has never had the opportunity to vote. Sinijlawi dismissed Israeli restrictions as the primary reason for the delay. Instead, he pointed to a "rejection" of change among older Palestinian leaders as the main cause for the postponement. The elections were the first planned in twenty years.
