The duo had previously withdrawn their plea challenging the Delhi High Court's decision to extend their judicial custody. Das and Ranka were arrested for protesting at Jantar Mantar by unfurling a national flag after the Delhi Police had withdrawn the site's status as an authorized protest venue.

CJP नेताओं सौरव दास और आशुतोष रंका को स्पेशल एग्जीक्यूटिव मजिस्ट्रेट कोर्ट से ज़मानत मिलने के बाद तिहाड़ जेल से रिहा किया जाएगा। उनकी हिरासत की अवधि आज समाप्त होने वाली थी, और उन्हें शाम को अदालत में पेश किया गया था। दोनों ने पहले दिल्ली हाई कोर्ट के उनके न्यायिक हिरासत को बढ़ाने के फैसले को चुनौती देने वाली अपनी याचिका वापस ले ली थी। दास और रंका को जंतर मंतर पर राष्ट्रीय ध्वज फहराने के विरोध के लिए गिरफ्तार किया गया था, जिसके बाद दिल्ली पुलिस ने स्थल को अधिकृत विरोध स्थल का दर्जा वापस ले लिया था।
