US Insurer Rejects Claim For Toenail Injury; Consumer Panel Orders Payout

A 62-year-old woman who injured her toenail while closing a door in the US has won a consumer case against her travel insurer. The insurance company had refused to reimburse her medical expenses, despite the treatment being covered under her policy. The Chandigarh District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission ordered the insurer to pay USD 944.61 for medical bills and Rs 30,000 for mental agony and litigation costs. The commission found the insurer guilty of deficiency in service for withholding the eligible claim amount.

अमेरिका में दरवाज़ा बंद करते समय अपने अंगूठे में चोट लगवाने वाली 62 वर्षीय महिला ने अपने ट्रैवल इंश्योरर के खिलाफ उपभोक्ता मामला जीत लिया है। बीमा कंपनी ने उसके मेडिकल खर्चों का भुगतान करने से इनकार कर दिया था, जबकि इलाज उसकी पॉलिसी के तहत कवर था। चंडीगढ़ जिला उपभोक्ता विवाद निवारण आयोग ने बीमा कंपनी को मेडिकल बिलों के लिए USD 944.61 और मानसिक पीड़ा व मुकदमेबाजी की लागत के लिए ₹30,000 का भुगतान करने का आदेश दिया। आयोग ने बीमा कंपनी को योग्य दावा राशि रोकने के लिए सेवा में कमी का दोषी पाया।
