Old Monk Sales Ban Costs Maharashtra Rs 350 Crore in Excise Revenue
Times of India · business
Maharashtra has reportedly lost approximately Rs 350 crore in excise revenue due to restrictions on Old Monk rum sales from a specific manufacturing unit. The maker, Mohan Rocky Springwater Pvt Ltd, claims business losses exceeding Rs 500 crore as it challenges the FSSAI's prohibition order. The company argues that the same formulation is sold through other units, impacting around 300 workers. The dispute centers on whether the spirit's formulation and use of additives comply with regulations for being marketed as 'rum'. The Bombay High Court is hearing the matter.
