Hindustan Times · health

Chronic health conditions are increasingly affecting middle-aged and older Indians, with a significant rise observed between two survey waves. An analysis found that multiple long-term conditions impacted 24.4% of adults, up from 19.2%, leading to poorer quality of life and increased healthcare use. India has approximately seven crore people diagnosed with hypertension and 4.68 crore with diabetes among those screened. Recognizing and understanding how these conditions interact is crucial, as many chronic diseases can develop silently without obvious symptoms.
