Sportstar · sports

Midfielder Anirudh Thapa scored for India against Uruguay in a FIFA international friendly in Kolkata. His goal equalised the scoreline after Darwin Nunez had scored from a penalty. Thapa plays for Mohun Bagan Super Giant and has represented India over 60 times since his 2017 debut. This was his fifth international goal, and his first since scoring against Myanmar in March 2023. While Thapa scored, he is not the first Indian to score against Uruguay; Manas Bhattacharya achieved this in 1982.
