UK Farmland Transformed Into Wildlife Haven, Butterfly Numbers Soar
Times of India · environment
A 330-acre former wheat farm in West Sussex, England, has seen a dramatic increase in butterfly populations just two years after habitat restoration began. Surveys in 2026 documented 5,290 butterflies from 28 species, including rare sightings of the small blue and dingy skipper. This rapid return of wildlife demonstrates the effectiveness of managing farmland for nature. The project involved sowing wildflowers, planting hedgerows and woodland, and creating ponds, transforming land previously used for intensive wheat cultivation for four decades.
