Tomato Farmers Block Highway Over Price Crash, Demand Support Price

Tomato growers in Annamayya district, Andhra Pradesh, blocked the Rayachoti-Madanapalle highway to protest a drastic price crash. Produce is selling for ₹300 per 18-kg box locally, significantly less than in neighbouring markets and insufficient to cover harvesting and transport costs. Farmers are demanding a procurement centre linked to the Madanapalle yard and a support price to address the disparity. The protest caused traffic disruption on the Tirupati-Bengaluru route for over an hour. Officials stated the issue would be raised with the Marketing Department.

आंध्र प्रदेश के अन्नमय्या जिले के टमाटर किसानों ने कीमतों में भारी गिरावट के विरोध में रायचोटी-मदनपल्ले हाईवे को ब्लॉक कर दिया। स्थानीय स्तर पर 18 किलो का डिब्बा ₹300 में बिक रहा है, जो पड़ोसी बाजारों से काफी कम है और कटाई व परिवहन की लागत को कवर करने के लिए पर्याप्त नहीं है। किसान इस अंतर को दूर करने के लिए मदनपल्ले यार्ड से जुड़े खरीद केंद्र और समर्थन मूल्य की मांग कर रहे हैं। इस विरोध प्रदर्शन के कारण तिरुपति-बेंगलुरु मार्ग पर एक घंटे से अधिक समय तक यातायात बाधित रहा। अधिकारियों ने कहा कि इस मुद्दे को मार्केटिंग विभाग के सामने उठाया जाएगा।
