J&K High Court Bans Fuel Boats on Dal Lake, Orders Shift to Alternatives

The Jammu & Kashmir High Court has ordered an immediate ban on all fuel-powered motorboats, including motorized shikaras and jet skis, operating on Srinagar's Dal Lake. This directive will halt 166 such vessels, citing growing pollution concerns. The court has directed authorities to explore replacing fuel boats with solar-powered or battery-run alternatives. While emergency service boats are exempted, the ban aims to balance tourism with the lake's environmental preservation. The court emphasized that any plying of fuel boats would be considered contempt of its order.

जम्मू और कश्मीर हाईकोर्ट ने श्रीनगर की डल झील पर चलने वाली सभी फ्यूल से चलने वाली मोटरबोटों, जिनमें मोटर वाली शिकारा और जेट स्की शामिल हैं, पर तुरंत रोक लगाने का आदेश दिया है। इस आदेश से 166 ऐसी नावें बंद हो जाएंगी, क्योंकि प्रदूषण बढ़ने की चिंता जताई गई है। कोर्ट ने अधिकारियों को फ्यूल वाली नावों की जगह सोलर पावर या बैटरी से चलने वाले विकल्पों पर विचार करने का निर्देश दिया है। हालांकि, आपातकालीन सेवा वाली नावों को छूट दी गई है, लेकिन इस बैन का मकसद पर्यटन और झील के पर्यावरण संरक्षण के बीच संतुलन बनाना है। कोर्ट ने जोर देकर कहा कि फ्यूल वाली नावों को चलाना उसके आदेश की अवहेलना माना जाएगा।
