A US think tank's proposal for a military pullback from the western Pacific has caused alarm among allies. The report suggests shifting forces from the 'first island chain' to the 'second island chain' to reduce war risks with China. It also advocates ending mutual defense alliances with countries like South Korea, Japan, Australia, and the Philippines.
