Indonesia Deploys Dry Ice To Combat Forest Fire Smoke

TV9 Hindi · world

Indonesia is battling severe forest fires, with smoke blanketing Southeast Asia and causing health issues and school closures. Four people have died on Java island due to the fires. To combat the pervasive smoke, President Prabowo has approved the use of dry ice, a solid form of carbon dioxide, dropped from aircraft. This method aims to cool the air and break temperature inversion layers trapping smoke near the ground. However, dry ice will not extinguish the fires themselves, which often burn underground in peatlands and require water and ground intervention.
