Madras HC Orders Return of Dowry to Father of Suicide Victim

The Madras High Court has ordered the Tirupur police to recover 100 sovereigns of gold jewellery and a Volvo car given as dowry to the husband of Rithanya. Rithanya died by suicide in June 2025 due to dowry harassment. The court directed the police to return the recovered items to Rithanya's father, R Annadurai. Justice G K Ilanthiraiyan stated that the dowry should be transferred to the deceased's parents if there are no children involved.

मद्रास हाईकोर्ट ने तिरुपुर पुलिस को रिटन्या के पति को दहेज के तौर पर दिए गए 100 सोने के गहने और एक वोल्वो कार बरामद करने का आदेश दिया है। रिटन्या ने जून 2025 में दहेज उत्पीड़न के कारण आत्महत्या कर ली थी। कोर्ट ने पुलिस को निर्देश दिया कि बरामद की गई चीजें रिटन्या के पिता आर अन्नादुरई को वापस कर दी जाएं। जस्टिस जी के इलंथिरईयन ने कहा कि अगर कोई बच्चे नहीं हैं तो दहेज मृतक के माता-पिता को हस्तांतरित किया जाना चाहिए।
