Traditional Mandar Instrument from Gumla Receives Geographical Indication Tag

The traditional mandar percussion instrument from Gumla district has received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag from the Government of India's GI Registry. This recognition has sparked celebrations in Jarjatta village, where the instrument is traditionally made by artisans of the Ghagi community. The GI tag is expected to bring national visibility to the craft, boost entrepreneurship, and help expand the business for over 300 associated artisans. Efforts are underway to strengthen the producer company and make the handicraft economically viable for future generations.
