Jammu & Kashmir Medical Students Protest Professor's Alleged Burqa Ban in Labour Room

Scores of students at Government Medical College (GMC), Doda, protested on Wednesday after a professor allegedly denied entry to burqa-clad students in the labour room. Students boycotted work, demanding an apology and stating the professor dislikes burqas, calling them unlawful. They also questioned why burqas were singled out when other dress code issues exist. The hospital administration has formed a committee to investigate the allegations, and a senior police officer is reviewing the situation for potential FIR filing. Local legislator Mehraj Malik has raised the issue with the Health Minister.

बुधवार को डोडा के गवर्नमेंट मेडिकल कॉलेज (GMC) में कई छात्रों ने विरोध प्रदर्शन किया। आरोप है कि एक प्रोफेसर ने बुर्का पहने छात्रों को लेबर रूम में घुसने से मना कर दिया था। छात्रों ने काम बंद कर दिया और माफी की मांग की। उन्होंने कहा कि प्रोफेसर को बुर्का पसंद नहीं है और वह इसे गैरकानूनी बताते हैं। छात्रों ने यह भी सवाल उठाया कि जब ड्रेस कोड के दूसरे मुद्दे भी हैं, तो बुर्के को ही क्यों निशाना बनाया गया। अस्पताल प्रशासन ने आरोपों की जांच के लिए एक कमेटी बनाई है। एक वरिष्ठ पुलिस अधिकारी भी FIR दर्ज करने की संभावना के लिए स्थिति की समीक्षा कर रहे हैं। स्थानीय विधायक मेराज मलिक ने इस मामले को स्वास्थ्य मंत्री के सामने उठाया है।
