Sami Abu Shehadeh, leader of the Palestinian Balad party, has withdrawn his candidacy for the upcoming Israeli elections. The decision followed pressure from the Supreme Court, which indicated a majority of judges agreed with his disqualification by the Central Elections Committee. Rivals accused Shehadeh of supporting Hamas's October 7 attack due to an article he wrote. Rights group Adalah condemned the move, stating it severely impacts Palestinian citizens' right to representation. Other Arab electoral lists have also faced barring, with appeals ongoing.
