Charles Baker started a garage business in 1980 to create employment for his son, Justin, who has epilepsy. This initiative grew into Baker Industries, a nonprofit workforce development organization based in Malvern. Over nearly five decades, the organization hired, trained, and mentored over 12,500 individuals facing employment challenges. These included people with disabilities, substance use disorders, and those with recent incarceration or housing insecurity. Baker Industries aimed to provide a steppingstone to regular employment, believing work offers rehabilitation and a chance for people to achieve more than they believe possible.
