Indian Rupee Hits Six-Week High Driven By Jio IPO And RBI Intervention

The Hindu - Business · business

The Indian rupee strengthened significantly, closing at 94.43 against the U.S. dollar, marking a six-week high. This surge was primarily driven by foreign currency inflows associated with Reliance Industries' Jio Platforms IPO and intervention by the Reserve Bank of India to manage dollar demand. Analysts noted that a stronger rupee can help reduce imported inflation and lower currency-related costs for companies importing essential goods like crude oil. Despite the gains, pressures from weak domestic markets and elevated crude oil prices were also observed.
