RTI Act Implementation Lags: Transparency Audits Show Significant Gaps

The Hindu · india

The Right to Information (RTI) Act, now 21 years old, mandates voluntary disclosure of information by public authorities. However, an analysis reveals significant gaps in compliance. Out of 2,303 registered Public Authorities (PAs), only 1,446 submitted third-party audit reports for the 2024-25 period, representing just 62.7% compliance. Furthermore, over 50% of submitted audits scored Grade C or below, indicating less than 80% transparency. While compliance has improved over five years, only 33 out of 94 government websites displayed the latest audit reports.
