Mumbai Fishermen Detained En Route To Protest Manori Desalination Project

A Mumbai fishermen's union alleged police stopped and detained them on Monday while they were heading to protest the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's proposed Manori desalination project. The Akhil Maharashtra Machhimar Kruti Samiti claimed their bus drivers were detained and keys seized, calling it an attempt to suppress the Koli community's voice. Fishermen intended to demonstrate against the project, citing concerns over its impact on traditional fishing grounds, livelihoods, and the marine environment. They questioned the project's environmental impact assessments and sought clarification on the legal basis for the police action.

मुंबई के मछुआरे संघ ने आरोप लगाया है कि सोमवार को पुलिस ने उन्हें बृहन्मुंबई नगर निगम के प्रस्तावित मनोरी डीसैलिनेशन प्रोजेक्ट के विरोध में जाते समय रोक लिया और हिरासत में ले लिया। अखिल महाराष्ट्र मच्छिमार कृती समिती ने दावा किया कि उनके बस ड्राइवरों को हिरासत में लिया गया और चाबियां जब्त कर ली गईं, इसे कोली समुदाय की आवाज़ को दबाने की कोशिश बताया। मछुआरे इस प्रोजेक्ट के खिलाफ प्रदर्शन करने वाले थे, उन्होंने पारंपरिक मछली पकड़ने के क्षेत्रों, आजीविका और समुद्री पर्यावरण पर इसके प्रभाव के बारे में चिंता जताई। उन्होंने प्रोजेक्ट के पर्यावरण प्रभाव आकलन पर सवाल उठाए और पुलिस कार्रवाई के कानूनी आधार पर स्पष्टीकरण मांगा।
