India-Qatar BIT Talks Gain Momentum in Doha

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is in Doha for the AIIB meeting, where she is expected to discuss a bilateral investment treaty (BIT) with her Qatari counterpart. While a conclusion is not anticipated, the meeting aims to give momentum to the ongoing negotiations. India is also in talks with Qatar for a free trade agreement, with Qatar interested in concluding both pacts together. Experts suggest India's experience with the UAE could facilitate smoother talks, potentially adapting its BIT framework.
