Kerala's tourism department is launching a Green Marshal initiative to improve safety and facilities at tourist spots, particularly for solo women travellers. These trained personnel will act as visible points of contact, assisting visitors, monitoring locations, and ensuring basic amenities remain functional. The program aims to create around 180 local jobs in its first phase. Beyond safety, Green Marshals will also be responsible for cleanliness and environmental upkeep at tourist destinations. Their effectiveness will depend on their training, visibility, and coordination with authorities.
