The Hindu - Business · business
India's overall coal imports decreased by 5.83% in August compared to the previous year, driven by increased domestic production and reduced overseas shipments. The country imported 104.57 million tonnes of coal during the month, down from 111.05 million tonnes last year. Imports for domestic coal-based power plants saw a significant slump of 35.23%, while those for imported coal-based plants rose slightly. The share of imported coal in India's consumption basket also declined, reflecting a strengthening domestic supply chain.
