India's Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has strongly criticised the European Union's carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM), calling it a policy that "invites disaster." He warned that imposing such a tax on carbon-intensive imports will increase living costs and make industries uncompetitive. Goyal also expressed optimism about the India-EU free trade agreement, anticipating its signing by the end of the year and potential operationalisation within four to five months. This FTA aims to significantly boost trade and investment between the two economic blocs.

भारत के वाणिज्य और उद्योग मंत्री पीयूष गोयल ने यूरोपीय संघ के कार्बन बॉर्डर एडजस्टमेंट मैकेनिज्म (CBAM) की कड़ी आलोचना की है, इसे एक ऐसी नीति बताया है जो "विनाश को न्योता देती है"। उन्होंने चेतावनी दी कि कार्बन-गहन आयात पर ऐसा कर लगाने से जीवन यापन की लागत बढ़ेगी और उद्योग प्रतिस्पर्धा से बाहर हो जाएंगे। गोयल ने भारत-यूरोपीय संघ मुक्त व्यापार समझौते को लेकर भी आशावाद व्यक्त किया, जिसके इस साल के अंत तक हस्ताक्षरित होने और चार से पांच महीनों के भीतर लागू होने की उम्मीद है। इस एफटीए का उद्देश्य दोनों आर्थिक गुटों के बीच व्यापार और निवेश को महत्वपूर्ण रूप से बढ़ावा देना है।
