Ted Turner Donates 80,000 Acres of Nebraska Prairie To Eco-Agriculture Institute

In 2021, Ted Turner transferred nearly 80,000 acres of Nebraska prairie to the Turner Institute of Eco-agriculture. This land, known as McGinley Ranch, now serves as a research site for wetlands and bison. The institute is studying wet meadows, which are crucial for flood regulation, water storage, and carbon sequestration. Early soil tests indicate these wet meadows hold significantly more organic carbon than surrounding dunes. Research also suggests that reintroducing bison can substantially increase native plant species richness.
