Connecticut Man's $35 Yard Sale Bowl Sells for Over $721,000 at Auction
Times of India - India · india
A Connecticut man purchased a small blue-and-white porcelain bowl for $35 at a yard sale in 2020. He later sent it to Sotheby's for evaluation, where experts identified it as a rare Chinese imperial-era artefact from the Ming dynasty's Yongle period, dating to the early 15th century. Only seven comparable bowls were known to exist worldwide. Initially estimated to sell for $300,000 to $500,000, the bowl ultimately fetched $721,800, including fees, after attracting 15 bids at a New York auction in March 2021.
