Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh indicated the force might seek alternative fighter platforms if the indigenous fifth-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) faces development delays. The IAF currently operates 29 fighter squadrons against an authorised strength of 42, requiring an annual induction of 36 to 40 aircraft. Singh also mentioned a potential finalisation of the 114 Rafale fighter jet deal within the current financial year, with a majority to be manufactured in India.
