Fed's Jefferson Urges Patience on Rates; Kashkari Sees More Hikes Ahead

Federal Reserve Vice Chair Philip Jefferson stated Thursday that while he supported the last rate increase, there is no immediate need for further action. He emphasized that future policy adjustments should be based on careful examination of economic data and evolving outlooks. Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari, however, indicated that additional rate hikes might be necessary through 2027 to control the economy. Kashkari expressed uncertainty about whether the next move should occur in October, but projected one more quarter-point hike this year and another in 2027.
