India is facing a sharp rise in sugar prices, with retail rates reaching 75 rupees per kilogramme, up from 40 rupees last year. This surge threatens to increase the cost of traditional sweets, a staple during the country's festive season. The sweets sector, worth over $1.1 billion, relies heavily on festive sales. Lower sugar production, attributed to reduced sugarcane cultivation and rainfall, coupled with alleged hoarding, has exacerbated the situation, impacting consumers.

चीनी के दाम बढ़े, भारत के त्योहारी मौसम पर असर

भारत में चीनी की कीमतें आसमान छू रही हैं। पिछले साल 40 रुपये किलो बिकने वाली चीनी अब खुदरा बाज़ार में 75 रुपये किलो तक पहुँच गई है। इससे त्योहारों पर बनने वाली मिठाइयों का महंगा होना तय है। मिठाइयों का कारोबार 1.1 अरब डॉलर से ज़्यादा का है और यह त्योहारों पर बहुत निर्भर करता है। गन्ने की कम खेती और बारिश की कमी से चीनी का उत्पादन घटा है।
