Farmers' Group Threatens 'Militant Resistance' Over US Trade Deal

The All India Kisan Sabha has threatened the Indian government with "militant resistance" from farmers if it proceeds with a trade deal with the United States. The organization argues that concessions to Washington would threaten domestic agriculture and lead to greater corporate consolidation. Farmers reportedly cannot compete with heavily subsidised American agricultural producers. The AIKS also accused the government of keeping Parliament uninformed about the agreement's details, even as negotiations appear close to finalisation.
