10% Suitable Land for Agrivoltaics Can Meet India's 2050 Power Demand

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi stated that operationalizing just 10% of India's suitable agricultural land for agrivoltaics could generate enough electricity to meet the country's projected 2050 power demand. A TERI study identified approximately 47.5 million hectares as suitable for this dual-purpose approach, combining farming with solar power generation. The government is planning to integrate agrivoltaics into the next phase of the PM-KUSUM scheme. India's agrivoltaic capacity is projected to exceed 5 gigawatts within the next three to four years.
