Chromium Contamination in Nashik Water Causes Severe Skin Ailments for Hundreds

Hundreds of residents in Nashik's Dattanagar neighbourhood are suffering from painful skin conditions, including rashes and ulcers, which they attribute to toxic chromium in their borewell water. Laboratory tests revealed chromium levels over 1,000 times the permissible limit for drinking water. Families are forced to buy food and clean water, facing social stigma. Activists warn that the pollution, stemming from the Ambad industrial estate, could potentially contaminate the Godavari River, as a promised effluent treatment plant remains unbuilt.
