Mumbai is exploring desalination to meet its growing water demand, which currently outpaces supply. This plan was first considered seriously after a severe water shortage in 2009 led to daily water cuts. The civic body proposed desalination to reduce the city's reliance on monsoon rainfall. This initiative aims to ensure a more consistent water supply for the bustling metropolis, mitigating future shortages.

मुंबई अपनी बढ़ती पानी की ज़रूरतें पूरी करने के लिए खारे पानी को मीठा बनाने (desalination) पर विचार कर रहा है। शहर में पानी की मांग, आपूर्ति से ज़्यादा हो गई है। 2009 में पानी की भारी कमी के बाद इस योजना पर गंभीरता से सोचा गया था, जिससे रोज़ाना पानी की कटौती होती थी। नगर निगम चाहता है कि शहर मानसून की बारिश पर कम निर्भर रहे। इससे मुंबई को लगातार पानी मिलता रहेगा।
