India Advised Patience and Diversification in US Ties Amidst Trump Presidency

Hindustan Times · world

India's approach to its relationship with the US under President Trump should be one of patience and diversification, rather than retaliation. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar recently highlighted terrorism as a drag on ties, noting Trump's warm relationship with Pakistan's army chief. Jaishankar described the US as having undergone a "radical repositioning" and becoming a "lonelier power." India should not assume a change of president will fully restore the relationship, but should continue engaging Washington while preparing for a more transactional partnership.
