Private Capex Outlook Rises, But Project Distress Drivers Shift Significantly

Business Standard · business

India's private sector capital expenditure outlook is strengthening, with projections reaching ₹3.2 trillion by FY27. New project announcements have surged dramatically from ₹4 trillion in FY14 to ₹35 trillion in FY26. However, the reasons for project distress have changed, with governance issues like land acquisition now accounting for only 20% of problems. Unfavourable market conditions and promoter interest have become the primary drivers, comprising nearly 72% of distressed projects in FY26. The share of distressed projects has also significantly declined.
