Indonesian Rainforest Regeneration Boosts Bird Species
Times of India · environment
A decade of forest regeneration in Indonesia's Harapan Rainforest has led to a significant increase in bird abundance, with 43.8% of species showing notable recovery. Researchers observed 187 bird species across two survey periods, finding that while overall abundance increased, trapping pressure negatively impacted populations. As forests became more accessible, the proportion of species thriving in less accessible areas rose, indicating that wildlife trapping hinders full recovery. This highlights the complex interplay between habitat restoration and human pressures on biodiversity.
