Hindustan Times · politics
Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting a meeting of Centre and state home ministers to discuss a drug-free India. Chennithala highlighted that drug seizures under Kerala's 'Operation Toofan' reveal extensive networks reaching foreign countries, necessitating urgent national intervention. He stressed the need for a tougher Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act with stringent penalties and asset confiscation to combat drug trafficking effectively. The minister pointed out that current laws are weak, allowing peddlers to exploit loopholes and secure bail easily.
