Pune Civic Body Admits 45 of 109 Transplanted Trees Died

Pune citizens have raised concerns over the transplantation of trees for a road-widening project, alleging mishandling and a lower survival rate than claimed by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). While PMC stated 109 trees were transplanted, citizens claim fewer were moved and many died at their original sites. A PMC official admitted that 45 of the 109 transplanted trees have died, attributing the failures to technical factors. Citizens dispute the age of the trees and claim some were never moved, only their canopies cut.

पुणे के नागरिकों ने सड़क चौड़ीकरण परियोजना के लिए पेड़ों के ट्रांसप्लांटेशन पर चिंता जताई है। उन्होंने पुणे नगर निगम (PMC) द्वारा बताए गए जीवित रहने की दर से कम होने और गलत तरीके से संभालने का आरोप लगाया है। जबकि PMC ने कहा कि 109 पेड़ ट्रांसप्लांट किए गए थे, नागरिकों का दावा है कि कम पेड़ हटाए गए और कई अपने मूल स्थानों पर ही मर गए। PMC के एक अधिकारी ने स्वीकार किया कि 109 ट्रांसप्लांट किए गए पेड़ों में से 45 मर गए हैं, और इसका कारण तकनीकी बताया। नागरिकों ने पेड़ों की उम्र पर सवाल उठाया और दावा किया कि कुछ को कभी हटाया ही नहीं गया, केवल उनकी छंटाई की गई।
