A new report from The Lancet Commission on 21st Century Global Threats to Health identifies nuclear conflict and the malicious use of artificial intelligence, particularly in bioweapon development, as potential causes of human extinction by 2100. These existential threats are ranked at the highest tier of a pyramid categorizing hundreds of global risks. The study distinguishes these from 15 other major catastrophic threats, such as climate change and pandemics.
