GVMC Election Sees 56.3% Voter Turnout, Core City Areas Lagging Behind
Times of India · politics
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) election recorded a voter turnout of 56.32%, a decrease from 2021 and significantly lower than the 2024 assembly elections. Core city areas again showed lower participation than peripheral zones, with turnout ranging from 49.71% to 66.27% across different zones. Political parties are now speculating on how this subdued turnout will impact the results, which are due on Tuesday. Analysts attribute the low participation to voter apathy, lackluster campaigning, and the disruption caused by Cyclone Arnab.
