Karnataka Launches Drive To Secure Unsafe Open Borewells

The Karnataka government is launching a statewide campaign called 'Borewell Suraksha Abhiyan' to identify and safely close unsafe, abandoned, or defunct open borewells. Initially focusing on borewells drilled under the Minor Irrigation Department, the initiative aims to prevent potential child fatalities. The campaign will later expand to include borewells from other government departments and public places. The department is also considering a public reporting system via WhatsApp and a web portal, potentially with geo-tagging for complaint tracking.

कर्नाटक सरकार 'बोरवेल सुरक्षा अभियान' नाम से एक राष्ट्रव्यापी अभियान शुरू कर रही है ताकि असुरक्षित, छोड़े गए या बंद पड़े खुले बोरवेल की पहचान की जा सके और उन्हें सुरक्षित रूप से बंद किया जा सके। शुरुआत में लघु सिंचाई विभाग के तहत खोदे गए बोरवेल पर ध्यान केंद्रित किया जाएगा, इस पहल का उद्देश्य बच्चों की संभावित मौतों को रोकना है। यह अभियान बाद में अन्य सरकारी विभागों और सार्वजनिक स्थानों के बोरवेल को शामिल करने के लिए विस्तारित किया जाएगा। विभाग व्हाट्सएप और एक वेब पोर्टल के माध्यम से एक सार्वजनिक रिपोर्टिंग प्रणाली पर भी विचार कर रहा है, जिसमें शिकायत ट्रैकिंग के लिए जियो-टैगिंग की सुविधा हो सकती है।
