Dietitian Warns Common Food Storage Mistakes Lead To Food Poisoning
Hindustan Times · health
Leaving cooked food on the counter to cool can increase the risk of food poisoning, according to dietitian Dr Eileen Canday. Bacteria can double their numbers every 20 minutes between 5°C and 60°C, making food unsafe even if it looks and smells fine. Common errors include leaving food out too long, overfilling the fridge, storing raw and cooked foods together, and reheating food multiple times. To prevent foodborne illnesses, refrigerate cooked food within two hours, maintain fridge temperatures at 5°C or below, and use shallow containers for quick cooling.
