OBC Lists Dropped For Census, Say Officials

Government officials revealed that the Union government decided against using Other Backward Classes (OBC) lists for the 2027 Census. Instead, an open-column method will be employed to enumerate castes. This decision was made because the lists featured 'classes, not castes'. The move aims to provide a more accurate and comprehensive understanding of caste demographics in India through the upcoming census.

सरकारी अफसरों ने बताया कि केंद्र सरकार ने 2027 की जनगणना में अन्य पिछड़ा वर्ग (OBC) की लिस्ट का इस्तेमाल न करने का फैसला किया है। इसके बजाय, जातियों की गिनती के लिए एक ओपन-कॉलम तरीका अपनाया जाएगा। यह फैसला इसलिए लिया गया क्योंकि लिस्ट में 'वर्ग' थे, 'जातियां' नहीं। इस कदम से आने वाली जनगणना में भारत में जातिगत आबादी की ज़्यादा सटीक और पूरी जानकारी मिलने की उम्मीद है।
