The accused reportedly took the child from their mother, claiming he would take him for a walk, and then committed the brutal act before the Durga idol. He then wrapped the head, body, and the weapon in a cloth and handed them to his mother. Villagers apprehended Ajit as he attempted to flee and handed him over to the police.
