NCERT has released a new 9th-grade Social Science textbook titled 'Understanding Society: India and Beyond Part 2'. This new book includes chapters that will teach students about the relationship between war and religious traditions. It explains that after the 7th century, many rulers invoked divine powers for protection during conflicts. The book cites examples like Chhatrapati Shivaji, the kings of Bastar, and the princes of Vijayanagar, whose traditions involved receiving divine weapons for their battles. This highlights how religious beliefs were integral to rulers' and warriors' strategies during that era.
