Libya's eastern parliament has approved a 2019 maritime deal with Turkiye, which delimits maritime boundaries in the Mediterranean. The agreement, signed by the UN-recognised government in Tripoli, allows Ankara to claim potentially gas-rich areas. However, the European Union and Egypt have rejected the deal, calling it "null and void" and an infringement on Egypt's sovereign rights. Greece also condemned the move, briefing the UN Security Council, while Turkiye's foreign minister dismissed the criticism as illegitimate.
