MBBS Seats Remain Vacant Despite Over 11 Lakh NEET Passers Due To High Fees

News18 Hindi · india

Over 11 lakh students cleared the NEET exam this year, yet hundreds of MBBS seats remain unfilled in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The primary reason cited is the exorbitant annual fees, ranging from ₹23 lakh to ₹35 lakh, making the 4.5-year course cost crores. Despite a significant drop in cutoff ranks, students are hesitant to join due to the financial burden. This situation has led to calls for capping fees, with one MP labelling these institutions as profit-driven. The high fees create a significant barrier for aspiring doctors.
